It would be interessting to hear if that works better when
software-center is run as:
SOFWARE_CENTER_USE_BUILTIN_LOGIN=1 software-center
then it should use a different login dialog (the simpler builtin one).

With version 2.1.22.1 this should be fixed, would be nice to know if
it works now for you.
