Today I was able to test most of the purchase process (using
software-center trunk r996), and I took a screencast.
<http://people.canonical.com/~mpt/usc-purchase-2010-08-09.ogv>
These are the problems I found -- some USC-specific, some
agent-specific, and some a combination of both. Highest-priority
problems indicated with "***".
0:10 The "More Info" and "Install" buttons are gigantic. ***
0:10 The button for a for-pay item is still "Install"; it should be
"Buy".
0:35 The purchase process opens in a separate window; it would be much
more elegant embedded in the same window.
0:35 The "Connecting to payment service" text is thick and unstyled.
0:36 A Launchpad Login Service page is shown. This should be an Ubuntu
Single Sign-On page (or dialog). ***
0:59 "You have used your Single Sign On ID to access a site which is
*not* recognised by Launchpad Login Service..." What? ***
1:06 The layout of the purchase page is such that it will always scroll
horizontally. The margins (and size of the headings) should be
much less.
1:06 The page shows a "Total" even when you're buying only one thing.
(Currently you're always buying only one thing, but that may change
in the future.)
1:08 The "Amount" header doesn't line up with the amounts.
2:25 The form spacing is inconsistent: for example, the distance between
the "Card type" label and the "Country" menu is less than the
distance between the "Card number" field and its own caption.
2:31 The "Terms of Service" link doesn't do anything. ***
2:37 The "I agree to the terms of service" checkbox is below its label.
It should be to the left.
2:42 When there's an error near the bottom of the form, the next step
initially looks just like the form has returned. (The error should
be described at the top of the form too.)
2:57 The "Confirm Payment Information" screen shows a "Country Code"
rather than a Country.
3:15 After confirming the payment, nothing happens. ***
