Hi all. 
Just tried to follow your discussions and new mockup.
I have to say that i do not like it the most. It feels kike lot of clicks. 
But it brought me to another idea.
By the way i just tested the popup approach and its perfect whike driving!
I want to bring the two ideas together!
So: In general i think its a good thing ti move some things to the search 
page header
I woul suggest coordinates and favorites. As those are search criterias.
For an active route i would set a "route settings” icon in the main header 
to control everything belonging to route options easily with few clicks!
This would open the pop up with a 4x4 small grid with the most important 
nearbys you need while driving: Gas, parking, rest, car repair.
Beside that grid the ' nearby destination'
And cancel route.
That will really help a car driver.
In future releases we could even make the small grid being customized with 
'nearby favorites' for example.

What do you think?
