Message #00031
Route Menu
Hello,
Let me start of this email with a clear warning .. this is only a
discussion and I would really like to hear some healthy exchanges of
reasons and ideas take place.
I have had 3 users tell me that the "Nearby" and "Share" menu items we show
in the Route Page to be useless and rather duplicated for no reason. To be
honest, I share that opinion. Let me present my reasons below, and then I
would like to hear your use-cases for those 2 menu options. How do you guys
use them? Do you even use them?
1. NearBy (Current Position, From Map, Destination)
NearBy feature is extremely powerful and I love that feature! However I
always access it from the POI Popup when I click on a location in the map.
I have *never* gone to the nearby menu to search for nearby places. The
best part is that you can practically click on *any point* which includes
your current location, any map position and destination and quickly see the
nearby POIs. So why do we need the NearBy menu option?
Check out this screenshot http://imgur.com/vpRGCh3 .. Using the map method,
you can find all near by places in 2 steps.
Using the nearby menu method, you take 4 steps http://imgur.com/cIkuAqr ..
No one uses this method. If they do, then they are making a mistake!
2. Share (current Position, From Map, Destination)
This menu has the same drawbacks as the nearby menu. You can share any/all
position straight from the popup in the map. Why do we really need this
menu item?
I encourage both of you to really think into this discussion. Please. Give
me *one* good reason how the menu items are useful/efficient ?
My recommendation is to remove those 2 menu options. Users can perform
their functions straight from the popup.
Cheers,
Nekhelesh
