Re: An Introduction

Hello!

My name is John Kim, and I'm a high school junior in Los Angeles. Just one
more year away from college. I encountered Ubuntu back in 2007, but became
a user in 2012, where I attended my first uds in Oakland. Funny, Canonical
was about to have another one there until they switched to a more digital
uds.

I'm not a developer, but I'm learning Python, HTML, and command line skills
to acquaint myself with Linux. As spring break is coming up, I hope to get
down the basics of coding and contribute code to the project. Also, I help
out on various open source projects, prominently Geary and Ubuntu. For
both, I'm usually a bug reporter, and I'm active in the Ubuntu forums. One
recent accomplishment I had recently was doing my first talk at SCALE x11
TNG on why we need linux in high schools. It was quite an experience; I
didn't feel nervous speaking in front of 70+ people for some reason.

Which brings me to why I joined the evangelist team. My peers have no clue
about the prominence or even existence of Linux. When I interviewed my
principal about Linux for my speech, he said he didn't know what it is. I
wish to spread Linux use in my school and local area because Linux is more
than cost-effective.

During my spare time, I do parkour, take care of two budgies, and study
Korean.

Looking forward to the hangout!

John Kim
