Try Ubuntu 10.10, they've fixed it to make auto-configuration of
external screens easier (up to 1920x1200). If it doesn't work out of
the box, try to run the safe-graphics mode once it's installed, there
is a very simple reconfiguration tool that will find out about your
screens...

Dear all.
I know that this problem has been discussed many times but I still
cannot make it to work. I just purchased SONY Vaio VPCY2 and
installed
Ubuntu 10.04. I have the integrated Intel graphics (i915). I get no
output on the laptop screen and, at the same time, a beautiful
hi-res
output on my external 21" lab monitor. The tricks with adding
i915.modeset=0 or 1 in grub don't work (the former freezes up the
laptop
with two LEDs above the Delete key blinking). Did some of you
make it
work ? I would greatly appreciate your guidance to fix this.
Thanks a lot,
Roman
