Message #00085
Waoo... very impressive!
Congratulations! This for me was the most important milestone, to have a
great recording. Here's my feedback:
About the recording:
--------------------
- You're a brilliant host. I'm amazed at how good you were on that
recording. Your pace is perfect, you're confident, great voice, great
intonations and tone. It was very nice to listen to. It's hard to keep
people's attention in a monologue and I have to say I really enjoyed
listening to you. I'm confident you'll be successful with this podcast.
I also loved the way you talked, you were prepared, you knew where you
were going and it wasn't all "written down". Sounded really natural and
it was very pleasant.
- The sound quality is great.
- If you get quality jingles and sounds and if you break the show into
sections you'll have something I'll be looking forward to listen to on a
weekly basis even more so than the Linux Action Show :))
About the content:
------------------
- LSI is a rebranded version of mintInstall 4.x. It's 100% based on our
own technology :) It's a pity you didn't talk about our own Software
Portal: http://www.linuxmint.com/software , it brings as much as
tuxsoftware.com and it's integrated within Linux Mint (Menu -> Software
Portal / mintInstall).
- There's a comprehensive chapter in the user guide about installing
software via synaptic, apt and mintInstall. It also goes through the
advantages over Windows and the philosophy behind repositories:
http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/linuxmint.com/5/user-guide/EN-v1.pdf
- In Linux Mint 6 (RC1 is coming out today/tomorrow), mintInstall comes
with a brand new frontend called the "Software Manager", more info on
mintInstall 5: http://www.linuxmint.com/blog/?p=239
Overall:
--------
It wasn't just great, it was far better than anything I would have
imagined. I'm sure you'll get the jingles & sounds you need to make this
a great podcast. The challenge will be to see if you can keep the pace
and release on a weekly basis. Having your own .com and generating your
own revenue will help. I'll also greatly promote the show myself.
Regarding the podcast itself there's no doubt in my mind, it's going to
be an excellent one. You just amazed me with that recording. The only
thing I think you can improve on is your knowledge of Linux Mint. You
know quite a lot about Linux but it sounds like you're using Mint as if
it was Ubuntu. There are a few technologies and innovations which make
Mint even easier and it'd be a pity not to take advantage of them. I'll
make sure we keep in contact and I'll let you know how to find out more
about our own technology. I'll also keep you in the loop when there are
news from the team.
PS: I'll be away for 2 weeks so I won't be able to help much during that
time. I'm delighted I could hear that recording though, it's truly
brilliant.
Congratulations Charles,
Clem.

OK, it is now visible on mintcast.org. There was one more field I hadn't
noticed -- by default, it doesn't publish until midnight in the time
zone it was posted from. I moved it back to 8:00pm local time, and it's
there now.
In case it wasn't clear from my earlier message, I am going to re-record
the segment where I talk about installing software.
Hopefully I can get it a little smoother than this one. The content will
basically be the same, though.
So again, I just need to sort out the various pieces of music, and I'm
ready to go.
