Up to now, I did convert my presentations and lectures to PDF and used
evince or Acrobat Reader. My remote control has two big buttons (one is the
laser pointer, the other one has a down arrow on it) and one small button
with an up arrow on it. Just did a test with evince:
On the keyboard:
next slide: down, right & page-down
previous slide: up, left & page-up
With the remote control:
next slide: big down arrow button (produces page-down)
previous slide: small up arrow button (produces page-up)
As far as I can remember, Acrobat Reader binds the same keys to the same
functions. I also believe that this is true for OpenOffice and PowerPoint.
To avoid confusion among users, I would suggest to stick to these mappings.
People are simply too used to them by now, I'm afraid.
The seemingly strange logic to use page-down to move to a higher page number
is simple: Think of the presentation as a pile of sheets of paper. Page-down
moves to the next page down the stack, which is of course a page with a
higher page number. All word processors I know, show pages as a long series.
At the top is page 1 and at the bottom of page 1 starts the top of page 2.
Page-down simply means to move down the pages on the screen.
All the best,
Marc
