Message #00014
LIU Qi's ITPs
Hi all,
I just refrained from forwarding 2 Debian ITPs to this list
after I noticed who placed them :)
Regarding the followups to your ITPs, you might be interested
in some background from the private view of someone who has
been with Debian in the early (pre 1.0) days.
Among the project founders were Ian Murdock and Bruce Perens, both
have been long-time DPLs (well known as Mr. Debian in the OSS
community) who resigned from their positions and even from the project
among other reasons because of endless flame-wars regarding licensing
issues. If you don't agree with the purists who somehow manage to
succeed in all votings, you'll have a hard standing.
I still remember one of my last actions before I vanished from Debian
in '04 was to upload a libneon-xxx.dfsg-y package lacking important
documentation only to overcome a RC bug that held svn (depends:
libneon somehow) from entering testing (I had adopted neon for the
sole reason to see svn in main).
If you want to get work done, don't argue on licensing issues, if a
package won't be accepted for main, there's still contrib or non-free
and if even this isn't acceptable, put it in your own repo making it
accessible only to a selected crowd. I for my part don't see a
problem in adding another line to my sources.list - provided you sign
the repo.
eagerly-waiting-to-get-to-real-work-ly yours
Siggy
