There isn't very good English document on the technical details of
Loongson processors related to the software part. We do have Chinese
documents. I can provide to you if you could read Chinese. Also I am
glad to answer all questions related to the Loongson processors.
Loongson-2 is a single-core MIPS processor and Loongson-3 is a
multi-core processor. The main instruction codes are kept the same,
but some of instruction codes are adjusted to conform to the MIPS64
specification. Most of these modified instruction codes could not be
generated by gcc compiler. They are used mainly by hand-writing codes.
So basicly there is no difference in software between the Loongson2 and
Loongson3 machines except the Linux kernel.
