Hi and initial questions

Hello to all that are subscribed, i.e. kcleung & $me.

To start with, let me roughly present myself:

I'm a long time *nix user/programmer/administrator, my early
experience begins with an introduction to Unix release 6 source
code in an operating system course at TU Berlin.

I'm using Linux since around '93 and was a Debian developper
from '95 - '04. (some moments ago I learned that a launchpad
account has been automatically opened for me when importing
packages I was still listed as maintainer of).

Now let's talk about y?our project:

Do you have more information on the Loongson
chips than what can be found on Wikipedia?

  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loongson

From that article I learned that Loongson 2f is 64bit, little
endian (like the old DECstations, debian terms them 'mipsel'),
whereas Indys are big endian and mine says it's running a mips64
kernel.

% ssh indy uname -a
Linux indy-r5k 2.6.30-1-r4k-ip22 #1 \
  Sun Jul 19 01:33:38 UTC 2009 mips64 GNU/Linux

I guess some clarification of terminology will be necessary, I
prefer to get hands on specs (but I don't read any form of
Chinese).

   -----

What do you know about the Gdium project at

  http://www.gdium.com/

I wanted to sign in to their "One hacker one gdium" program but
refrained from completing the registration because of legalese
only in French and I need some clarifications before accepting.
AFAICT Gdium uses Loongson 2f.

   ------

Any more concrete plans than "get Ubuntu ready to enter the
chinese market of the future"?

In particular, can you provide infrastructure for testing?

lots more ...

Regards
  Siggy
