Message #00012
IE Support

I've been considering this for some time. I have been trying to develop
the theme with IE 5.5/6/7 support. With IE 8 being released, I'm
wondering if it's time to stop supporting old browsers. Microsoft no
longer supports these old versions and I'm wondering whether or not
theme theme should continue to do so.
If dropping older IE support, I'd like to drop support for IE 6 and
earlier. Of course some people will still use IE 6 and 5.5 but I only
hope that number is fading. I kept putting it off because I liked
thinking that any users that were still using the older browsers would
perhaps look at Ubuntu before making any switch. Unfortunately, my
guess is that it's also likely these are the people that won't want to
switch to anything else because what they have "just works."
In addition, I'd like to clean up the theme source. This will hopefully
make it easier to create an RTL version of the theme which is one item
that has been requested a few times. I realize that a deep cleaning of
the theme is in fact needed, especially in the CSS. Dropping some older
IE support could potentially make this change much easier.
Any opinions?
