Sorry, I don't know what a "whiteboard" is and whether this is the right
place to leave comments, but I wanted to add that there does not even
have to be a 1:1 correspondence between pages and slides: When using
e.g. latex-beamer, animated slides are implemented with multiple PDF
pages each.  (And it does make sense to discriminate the two.)
