Re: Sahana as a service for Samoa - pacific Tsunami

Pradeeper - thanks for coming forward with the offer, and I'm glad I can talk a little more openly about SaaS :)

I think the immediate step is for us in NZ to figure out the best approach for who to offer. Perhaps NZAID is the first approach to be made, as they are responsible for coordinating NZ assistance to international events.

Perhaps something that we could start working on, is trying to source vector and raster data for populating the mapping servers for the service? Perhaps we can start identifying data sources on the NZ Cluster list as well.

Tim - does LP have a wiki we can capture this stuff? If so, we'll capture it there for the time being.

Cheers Gav

Dear Cluster Members,

Firstly, our prayers and thoughts go to all who were affected by the
tsunami in the Samoa area. Gavin, thanks for tweeting about it. Phew -
there certainly seems to be an increase in disasters these past few
days!

We'd like to offer our helping hand during this period to assist our
friends in the region. We have plans to release Sahana SaaS in latter
part of October - the Sahana Software as a Service version for community response to disasters, available free of charge to response groups. This would be a SaaS management platform which can host and maintain multiple Sahana applications, with the following additional capabilities, as well
as all the other advantages of a SaaS implementation,

o Sahana application setup instantaneously within seconds (fully
automated)
o Schedule backup and restore (no technical knowledge needed)
o Download backups to local machine anytime (through SSL)
o Secure access through SSL
o Integration with GIS servers
o Messaging and Alerting capability
o 24x7 monitoring and support from development team
o Community support forums

It runs on world class servers (Rackspace) and can be setup instantly
and accessed from any where whilst being supported by a dedicated group
of Sahana developers during this period.

Since you already have an active community in the area, I'm sure we can work together to help the affected regions in someway. We can offer any agency (government/non-government) an instance of Sahana-SaaS which can be used to assist in the relief operations currently underway. We'd like
to hear your thoughts on this, and how we can effectively offer this
free service to the authorities.

Please let me know asap whether this would help or whether we could help
out in any other way. You can contact me 24x7 via my mobile
(+94772928456).

Best Regards

Pradeeper
