Message #00098
Netbooks
Charles,
I have an Acer Aspire one with the 1.6ghz Atom, 160gb HDD, 1gb DDR2, and 6cell battery. (Blue) , I have had it 3 days and I already love it. It's so small yet so easy to use.
I am switching from Mac OS because of two reasons really. The first and most important reason is that Mac OS made me feel safe, and not in the good way. I felt locked in like this is what defines me, the "we are all in this together, bow down to Jobs, he is our profit Apple can do no wrong cult following". Second I felt like all I could do the rest of my life was buy Mac hardware, never customize anything, I was locked in and felt the walls closing. I had to get out on this new system, or else I would start yelling "Get a Mac" every time I saw a windows PC crash. I couldn't have that. My iBook is gone but, I still have my iMac G4 (the thing is just so dang pretty I can't get rid of it).
The things I think that I'm going to miss the most: Dashboard, Xcode, and SK edit (web development software) That's really it.
Things I love so far: Gnome/mint interfacey, it's so clean I love it. Program installation via Synaptic/apt-get, it's just easy once you try it.
I will have a better time once I find a web developer that I like.
Also Justin thanks for that Link on the USB boot maker. I think that will help alot.
Phil
