Hi again Oliver,

I am using the Unity DE with a dark colour theme. I tried switching to the default Ambiance theme, but the symptoms remain the same.

As you guessed, the diodon process is indeed running, but unresponsive (not even the short-cuts function):

$ ps -ef | grep diodon
lads 6318 6156 0 12:50 ? 00:00:00 diodon

Could it be that you are using a different theme than the default Ubuntu?
Also what DE are you using?

I also have a feeling that it might be that Diodon is running but is not
shown properly.

Can you check the output of the following:
ps -ef | grep diodon


Those things might bring us closer to the cause of this issue.
