Hey I totally mislinked the upstream bug report. It should be here:

Can you try the following:

1. Play some music on laptop speaker without HDMI connected
2. Stop the playback
3. Connect to HDMI monitor with audio output
4. Resume playback. I get no audio here. Going to the GNOME sound config and doing speaker test also results in no sound. That said the audio meter is bouncing around.
5. Restart wireplumber user service
6. Restart playback. I get sound at this point. GNOME sound test works as well.

  Auto switching audio to HDMI back and forth does not work anymore

Status in wireplumber package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  It seems like Ubuntu 25.04's version of wireplumber has a bug
  (https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/wireplumber/-/issues/613)
  where if you plug your laptop into a HDMI monitor and expect your
  audio to switch over, it will not. It seems like the bug has been
  there since 0.5.0 and 25.04 is the first version that officially
  releases with that version.

  This is kind of a problem for every day usage and will not be great if
  it is not fixed by the next LTS.

  Workaround: run the following command after switching to HDMI.

  systemctl --user restart wireplumber.service
