[Question #142335]: Linux: start python script

New question #142335 on DataFinder:
https://answers.launchpad.net/datafinder/+question/142335

Dear,

***introduction to the question***
Recently I discovered DataFinder as a possible useful program to organize projects/data/launch scripts on different servers. However, at the moment I still miss some concrete information about how to test the possibilities of DataFinder in Linux.

What I have been able to do until now is:

* set-up a WebDAV server, using xampp. I can connect both the (python) admin-client as the user-client to this localhost.

* In the admin-client: I was able to make some Data Types, Relations, Data Stores, add scripts.

* in the user-client I was able to import and export certain files between the shared data repository and the local file system, add scripts, ...

But I discovered that I could not open or print any file using this python-interface, because I work on ubuntu. (I get an error that this is only possible on windows)

Of course this limits the usability of DataFinder for me, as I and some colleagues of me work mainly on linux. So is there a way to circumvent this ?

***the actual question***
As I was able to upload scripts, I also tried to run them using DataFinder, by going to Scripts>use local scripts and click on one of the scripts I uploaded (e.g. a very simple python script, named test.py containing: print "hello world" - or a another testscript as "from scipy import */ data=loadtxt("filename.test")/print data"). But apperantly nothing happens then. Is it also not possible to run scripts in ubuntu? Or do I need to this in another way.

So what actually want to do is run some simple python test-scripts to see how DataFinder works, but I the moment I'm not able to this.

***general remark***
In installing DataFinder and testing until now I have had quite some difficulties of finding the information I needed to do certain things. Is there an english manual available where the information you need to run DataFinder is collected? Of is the only available information about DataFinder stored at this launchpad website?

Kind Regards,

Thomas
