Message #00002
Me, Myself and Valable
Hello team!
First thanks for the quick acceptance.
This mail to introduce myself, present my concerns on the current state
of Valable and tell what I can bring easily.
I am a Java developer from the its beginning making my first web applets
in 1995/1996. My main interests for the latter years were XML, RDF and
the SemanticWeb. When I started to professionally work, I was employed
in an R&D subsidiary, to act as consultant around Java, multi-tiers,
rich client and give Java and XML formation internally and for our
clients. In my technological survey, I quickly discovered Eclipse.
Then I quit the IT business to go in the concert/theater business. As no
one ever stops being a computer scientist, I tried to make an ambitious
music/light/video studio front-end, based on Eclipse RCP/EMF/GEF.
However, this has stopped due to me being alone on that too big project.
And then I bought an Openmoko Freerunner, seen that all was in python
except the applications from SHR which were in C. I made a little
contribution in C, remembered how I dislike it and its never-followed
memory management conventions. This brought me (I can't remember exactly
how) to Vala three or four months ago.
I launch the following projects:
- ologicd and libsxb-frontend: Logic deamon based on XSB inference
engine and Flora2 language
- ophonekitd rewrite in Vala
- libmodulo: a IOC container to host ophonekitd components
- libfso-glib: a Vala binding of the Freesmartphone APIs
- vala-dbus-binding-tool: the tool used to generate libfso-glib from the
XML specs
(ologicd is currently sleeping until the ophonekitd DBus APIs matures..)
In doing all this, I contribute a bit to Valac. And as Eclipse has
always been my preferred IDE, I went to use Valable.
My main concerns about Valable:
- Syntax highlighting works correctly except some missing keywords and
modifiers (that may be my first work)
- There is no outline
- I can't do projects with content outside of the workspace (I actually
uses that a lot as my projects are classified by gits/, svns/ and now
bzrs/ but grouped by theme in my Eclipse workspaces.
- Completion does not work too
I think that these items are not too much work, and I will try to commit
on these during my spare time, as I really need them! Then I may look
for more things such as refactorings.
Best regards,
Didier.
