I have about 3000 photographs (taken by about 6 different cameras) in
a filesystem with not too much order (photographs placed in a jumble

I would like to put these in a neat filesystem with all of the
photographs taken in 2009 in the folder '2009', with the photographs
in this subdivided into folders orded by the month, with these divided
into the weeks.
Rapid Photo Downloader can handle it: http://damonlynch.net/rapid/
Simply set the source directory to where you have saved your existing
images. Make sure you have enough disk space for the operation, because
the images will be copied and not moved.
If you don't want to do it now, I suggest coming up with a good image
renaming strategy for the future. For instance, the format I use goes
like this:
20090723-1230-40-iso200-f2.0-135mm-320.jpg (Date, Time, Sequence number,
ISO, aperture, focal length, and shutter speed).
I find this information helpful for quickly evaluating sets of images.
Of course your needs might be quite different. You might find job codes
and camera models helpful.
