I've the same problem here!

$ uname -a
Linux hp-510 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Jun 18 14:43:41 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

running ubuntu 8.04.1
my laptop delays for about 15/20 secs..

Do you need some more info before i go with update-initramfs?
