Observation that function handlers and singalling system is not just
preferable but almost inevitable in Karma, we might as well go for a used
and tested library for Signals and Slots for the backend. Qt usage is not a
choice for backend. I came across

which is a very simple implementation in iso C++ for signals and slots, with
little restrictions. I think this is quite good. I will also have a look at
the boost library

for lightweight signal and slots.  Both the above implementations do not
need 'moc' preproocessing
