I've dual-booted with 10.04 and 10.10alpha2.
Even before apt-get update/upgrade, I was able to get touchpad and 2-finger scroll to work.
First be certain to add the boot option: i8042.nopnp
(However, adding that to /etc/default/grub interferes with 'apt-get upgrade', so re-apply manually.)
Copy the xinput1.desktop and xinput2.desktop files from the code repository. I'll double-check my instructions, as there's likely a typo in there since it didn't work for you. Using the same files as-is worked following a reboot of 10.10. (Also, test that the 'xinput' commands work: extract just those lines from the *.desktop files from 'Exec=' field, and run from command-line. That should work, albeit less than ideal.)
Touchpad gestures still don't get recognized following resume from hibernate or from suspend, even on 10.04... work-in-progress
Audio OUT worked "out of the box" with 10.10 but still incomplete internal mic functionality. Attempts at compiling a snapshot of ALSA downloaded a few days ago failed, so I'll try another snapshot.
(I've run into other issues, such as Radeon lock-up after 'apt-get upgrade', but this is merely an alpha release!)
