Message #00001
Sony refreshed Y-series (mid-2010)
Sony just refreshed the Y-Series laptops and updated the ultra-low voltage CPU from a Core2 Duo to Core i5 while still keeping the original form factor with minimal power consumption, albeit slightly more than the original late-2009 model.
Would those of you with the original model upload relevant bits of your config, please?
For instance, while Slackware 13.1 and Ubuntu 10.04 install cleanly from USB drive, the trackpad isn't recognized properly "out of the box" on mine, but the fix is simply to add a boot param via Grub.
I've created a bzr branch with relevant config files and logs based upon the initial install and my fixes so far.

For future readers of the mail archive, all branches are listed here:

For those new to bzr, it's similar to git. The least you need to know, ripped from my Bash history:
sudo apt-get install bzr
cd ~/sony-y-series/
...copy deep directory structure but only relevant files here...
bzr init
bzr add .
bzr status
bzr whoami Daniel Pezely <first name at last name dot com>
bzr commit -m 'Initial out-of-the-box instructions, config and issues found so far'
bzr push lp:~sony-vaio-y-series/+junk/Ubuntu-on-VPCY1
Of course, use your own name and relevant title for branch.
The minimalist in me thinks these are great laptops, so let's share what we know by revealing code, config and logs rather than just blog about bits and pieces.
Thanks,
-Daniel
PS - thank you, Albert, for setting this up on Launchpad. The page has been linked by a few other sites that I've seen so far, so likely others will find detailed information useful as well.
