That makes sense for versioning. What would you deem as 'necessary'? Security/Stability patches? Promotion through FOSS is a good idea and, if more than anything else, will get discussion & bug reporting flowing.
Great! The new system is setup already.

Although the project may not have a lot of attention at the moment I
think it'd be a good idea to get a complete .deb produced as soon as
possible, then we could think about maybe promoting the project through
FOSS sites such as Ubuntu Forums / OMG Ubuntu.

My current plan is to simply increment the version number for each
release (as per<https://launchpad.net/snakes-game/+milestones>), but
perhaps with some minor revisions in between if necessary. Version
numbering is a serious decision, are you happy with this plan?
