The last few weeks have been quite exciting for the Sahana project.

The system is being deployed by the Taiwanese
government<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/humanitarian-ict/message/3999>to
support their efforts in the wake of Typoon
Morakot<http://reliefweb.int/rw/dbc.nsf/doc108?OpenForm&emid=TC-2009-000150-TWN&rc=3>.
Four members of the global Sahana team are back from Camp Roberts, a
military base in California. They were using imagery from
UAVs<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unmanned_aerial_vehicle> and
incorporating them into Sahana. Lots of integration with the Google Earth
Fusion server, netbooks (including the XO OLPC <http://laptop.org/en/>),
renewable energy sources, WiMAX and lots of other goodness. Some photos of

Hopefully everyone has had a bit of a play with the Sahana platform over the
last month. I've some ideas of small projects that we could work on together
as a local group. If you are interested in any of these projects, please
discuss via the local mailing list (see below). Once we have an idea of what
we want to do, we'll send our specs for global feedback.

Quick wins:
1) Weather feed.
    - Enable Weather.com/Yahoo! information to be automatically updated
dependent on the location set.

2) RSS feed client
    - Create Google/Yahoo! News feed that could search for messages such as
"Gisborne earthquake", $incident_name or whatever else
    - Create a generic RSS/Atom feed client

2) Theme development
    Perhaps we could Kiwify the Sahana Platform.
    Mockups welcome - best to be submitted to
http://wiki.sahana.lk/doku.php/des:sahana_theme. Contact me for access.

Bigger projects:
1) A ticketing system between users.
    This would enable users to be able to request actions from others via
some form of popup or right-hand box. Ideas welcome.

2) Jabber integration. Do we have any experts on XMPP?

3) Custom survey form development.
    This would enable NZ deployments to integrate the NZ Red Cross PRIDE
database
