Message #00000
Testing the mailing list and testing Presto :)
Hey everybody! I hope all you Presto developers will be receiving this
message and thus will notice that we now have a mailing list to
discuss (i.e make flamewars about) all subjects related to Presto, the
musical programming language! :)
As of now, we - Presto developers - are:
João Paulo Pizani Flor - Florianopolis, Brazil
Douglas Fernando Rieger - Florianopolis, Brazil
Justin Paston-Cooper - Utrecht, the Netherlands
Luis Alberto Santana - Caracas, Venezuela
First things first, so...
The absolute first thing newcomers should do is try to build Presto in
its current state. I think there will be A LOT of changes in the
following days/weeks, but even so you really should try to download it
and build it now. It's my responsibility to help you with anything you
might need to build, as I was the first to go through the steps :)
* You must have the "bazaar" software installed in your development PC
* You must have GHC and the Haskell Platform also installed - really
easy and I can help with any problems you might have
* Download a branch of the code in your computer - just issue the
command " bzr branch lp:presto "
* Go to the directory containing Presto and try to run these tow
commands " cabal configure " and " cabal build ". Report what happens
(good or bad :P)
An IMPORTANT observation is that, as of NOW, the (approx. 200) tests
WILL NOT run, because of some version-related problems with Cabal
which I hope to fix soon. In fact, I'll try to post a blueprint in
Launchpad about the progress of fixing this, which will notify you
guys as it gets fixed :D
Also, take a look at the code, feel FREE to ask anything to me about
the inner workings, and feel free to comment the code... IT'S YOURS
\o/
Have a nice time!
