I am using Ubuntu 17.10 with GottenGeography from the PPA, version 2.5 (20170514:1102-7ea816f~ubuntu17.10.1)
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open GottenGeography
2. Open JPG
3. Drag to location on map
4. Click Save All -- the location etc changes from bold to normal as if it has saved
5. Click Close
6. Reopen (interestingly, sometimes it is saved when you reopen it the first time, but the actual file underneath does not appear to be modified and reopening it again loses the location)

I am happy to try to fix this myself, but would appreciate a starting
point. Is there a debug mode or similar to get some more information
about where the error might be?
