Message #00008
FSAG Web Site
Gentleman,
I visited with the slate people at web services yesterday. After
learning about how it works internally, I'm not so sure we'd want to
use it, but I'm going ahead with the beaurocratics of it anyway.
Basically, web services controls your theme without giving you any
creative access to it. You have to send in a request to have a
different theme than the two issued options, which aren't that bad --
I guess. Their people magic themes up for every web site they
control -- which seems like way too much work and I didn't realize
they had people doing that all of the time. So, we could design a
theme and give it to them hoping that they would put it in place with
the slate content readers if we would like.
Another thing I was upset with was that the project is not open source
yet, due to the fact that they lost their lead dev in March and won't
be proceeding with development until they get a replacement. Which
puts a huge draw on open sourcing the project. I did although inform
them that we were interested in helping package the software if they
ever got to that point.
On the positive side, I was pleased with how easy it is to pop in and
make updates on their sites and their UI looks really clean. And
after I'm given admin, I can give everyone publishing rights so we can
get mass updates all around. All of that out of the way, we should
have a slate controlled WVU page within' one week if we choose to
capitalize on it. Any interest in designing a theme should be voiced
soon.
Peace,
Hoss
