This also popped up on a Dell system on which the dvd device was not
detected at all. If a device is set from files under /dev, the region
cannot be manually set at all.

Status in Canonical and Fluendo collaberation project: New

Bug description:
DVD region setting does not get detected.

First detected case: Slimtype DVD A DS8A4SH, firmware CA11. Found in a Acer Aspire 5740, bought in Canada (so defaults/starts as region 1. Region setting was never changed.)

Steps to reproduce: 
1) install fluendo-dvd on a new install of Ubuntu
2) insert DVD
3) start fluendo-dvd

Current behaviour:
DVD playback cannot be started because of region settings.
Region in fluendo-dvd under Region tab in Preferences is "unknown". Needs to be set to 1.

Expected behaviour:
DVD playback is possible.
