Hi guys I'm not yet clued up with Gimp and other graphics tools on Linux, but I'll try making a revision later. I like the idea. Here a description of my variant and why.... Starting with the original Ubuntu log, keeping the main circular parts and the "heads" (small circles). Then add the "bricks" (rectangles from your idea) and put it in between the gaps of the circular parts. It then resembles three people passing bricks to one another... building to gether, hence working on the community effort theme of Ubunty. I also like the "troth" (triangle) in the middle. It's a small change and slightly more complicated logo, but I like the message it portrays.
