Invitation for presentation at minisymposium (SIAM GS11)

 Dear DOLFWAVE team,

Peter Bastian, Kristin Flornes, Atgeirr Rasmussen, and I are planning to organize a minisymposium on

"Reproducible Science and Open-Source Software in the Geosciences"

at the 2011 SIAM Conference on Mathematical & Computational Issues in the Geosciences (GS11), which will take place in Long Beach, California, USA March 21-24, 2011. More details on the theme and scope can be found in the abstract below. Further details are available on the web: http://www.siam.org/meetings/gs11/

We cordially invite you to present a talk of 25 minutes with additional 5 minutes discussion.

Please let us know as soon as possible whether you can accept this invitation. If yes, please send a tentative title to Bernd Flemisch (bernd@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <mailto:gxue@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>). Alternatively, we would be happy if you could suggest us other persons applying the FEniCS framework to geoscience problems.

We are looking forward to seeing you in California.

With best regards
P. Bastian, K. Flornes, A. Rasmussen, and B. Flemisch

Abstract:
The free and open source idea provides a chance for sustainable software development in geoscience. It offers a natural way to combine expertise from different groups by achieving a flawless integration of individual components. Free and open source software is also the only way to guarantee reproduction of scientific computations by any interested researcher. Increasing efforts are undertaken to develop systems for reproducible science, providing a convenient and open way to check and not least to improve scientific computations. This minisymposium develops an overview of research activities in the fields of reproducible science and open source simulators for geoscience applications.
