Hi all,

we have now upgraded the web portal both on the layout, content and server
side. Check it out here:

http://data.hiskenya.org

For the portal to succeed we are dependent on regular updates when it comes
to news, publications, learning materials. I hope that we can find a setup
where certain people becomes responsible for this work.

I need your input on pretty much everything:

1. The data section. What main topics should be on the front page? Which
indicators and charts should be below each topic?

I think one requirement is that we keep this very simple and have just a
two-level structure (no sub-topics), since the idea is to make a place for
the users who are not able to log in to dhis and other systems.


2. The "news" and "publications" pages need fresh content. I have created
user accounts and sent them in separate emails to many of you. You can use
that to log in using the "Log in here" link at the bottom of the front
page. If you want an account and have not yet received one, please contact
me.

I have written a short manual on how to update the news and publications
pages. It is attached at this email, and here as a google doc:

Please go ahead and improve these pages.


3. The "Learning" page needs fresh content. Please tell me what documents
and content you want to have there and I will include it.


4. The front page probably needs better content. Tell me what to include.


Regarding future development we have this on the roadmap:

a) Create a GIS plugin for use on the web pages similar to the chart
plugin. Will make it possible to create more attractive maps than the PNG
versions we have today.

b) Drill-down in chart and GIS plugins: It will be possible to drill-down
from the national level down to the district level by clicking on the chart
bars / gis polygons.

c) Create a simple front-end to facility search. This will require some
cooperation with the MFL developers.

d) Make it possible to define which resources (documents and links) which
should be externally visible (i.e. which resources in DHIS should appear on
the portal).


The portal is still linked to the test dhis site.
