if go to http://bugs.launchpad.net and type:

Dell wireless 1515

you will see if anyone else has already submitted a bug report. I've
done it now and it seems
there is one here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/network-manager/+bug/373680

One of the comments suggests three options to fix it:

I think the best is to uninstall network-manager and install wicd

and possibly install the backports:

sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-karmic
