Status in rust-coreutils package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  $ gnudirname foo/.
  foo
  $ dirname foo/.
  .
  $ dirname --version
  dirname (uutils coreutils) 0.2.2

  This incompatibility breaks the ‘git subtree’ command:

  https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/git/git.git/tree/contrib/subtree/git-
  subtree.sh?h=v2.51.1#n266

  and causes the Git test suite to fail in
  contrib/subtree/t/t7900-subtree.sh.
