Message #08287
[Bug 2125846] [NEW] [MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk / ALC1220] snd_hda_intel 0000:10:00.6: no codecs found (Subsystem 1462:ed75)
Public bug reported:
Description:
On an MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk (subsystem ID 1462:ed75) with Realtek
ALC1220 onboard audio, the kernel detects the HD Audio controller but
fails to initialize the codec.
As a result, only HDMI audio devices are available (aplay -l shows
NVIDIA/AMD HDMI outputs and USB devices, but no “Analog” outputs).
This appears to be a missing quirk for this board revision.
System information:
Distro: Xubuntu 25.04 (development branch)
Kernel version:
$ uname -r
6.14.0-32-generic
linux-firmware package:
20250317.git1d4c88ee-0ubuntu1.6
Audio controller (lspci):
10:00.6 Audio device [0403]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] Family 17h/19h/1ah HD Audio Controller [1022:15e3]
DeviceName: Realtek ALC1220
Subsystem: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. [MSI] Device [1462:ed75]
Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel
ALSA modules:
$ cat /proc/asound/modules
0 snd_hda_intel
1 snd_hda_intel
2 snd_hda_intel
3 snd_usb_audio
4 snd_usb_audio
Relevant dmesg logs:
snd_hda_intel 0000:10:00.6: enabling device (0000 -> 0002)
snd_hda_intel 0000:10:00.6: no codecs found!
Expected result:
ALC1220 analog audio devices should appear in aplay -l and be available in PulseAudio/PipeWire.
Actual result:
No analog audio devices, only HDMI/USB audio cards are available.
Steps to reproduce:
Boot Ubuntu/Xubuntu 25.04 with MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk.
Run aplay -l.
Observe that ALC1220 analog devices are missing.
Check dmesg | grep hda → “no codecs found!”.
Additional notes:
BIOS setting HD Audio Controller is enabled.
No “Front Panel Type” option available in BIOS.
Problem persists with kernel boot parameters:
snd-intel-dspcfg.dsp_driver=1
snd_hda_intel.model=alc1220
Latest linux-firmware installed.
Same behavior confirmed on Ubuntu mainline kernel 6.14.
✅ Call to action
Please add a quirk for subsystem 1462:ed75 (MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk,
ALC1220).
** Affects: alsa-driver (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
