[Bug 2081281] Re: gnome terminal and other apps freezes for about 30 seconds
Hrm, if anyone is still experiencing these freezes in a reproducible
manner, please enable debug logging and reproduce the problem,
$ wpctl set-log-level D ; wpctl set-log-level 0 4
# ... reproduce problem ...
$ wpctl set-log-level - ; wpctl set-log-level 0 -
Then attach
journalctl -b
to this ticket.
It would also be interesting to see what old files people had in
/etc/pipewire that cause the issue. Perhaps we should have some kind of
post hook to remove that stuff. You may also fix things like this after
upgrades by removing ~/.local/state/wireplumber and restarting
wireplumber,
$ rm -rf ~/.local/state/wireplumber
$ systemctl --user restart wireplumber

Bug description:
After I did a release upgrade from 22.04 LTS to 24.04.1 LTS some GUI operations lead to a freezing app. I first observed it in gnome-terminal when clicking the plus sign to open another tab. Another example is gnome-control-center. If klick to open the control center help page, the control center freezes. And here is another example. In firefox if I want to fill out a html form, opening a drop down item lets freeze firefox for a while.
All examples highlight a infobox asking, if I want to wait for the app to respond or kill it.
I tried it using X11 or Wayland. Both show the same beavior. I also
switched to another desktop manger (from gdm to sddm) but the behavior
is the same. I created a new user but also the behavior is the same.
I downloaded a live image of Ubuntu Studio and started it from a usb
stick, so all was fine.
I guess the problem is in the deep of the system, maybe the kernel,
but I do not have the knowledge to investigate it.
