Title:
Provide tag and docs for last python-2.4 version
Status in DataFinder - flexible data management:
Won't Fix
Bug description:
If I'm not mistaken, the current release is not compatible with python-2.4 although the readme says it is sufficient.
For example there are some try-except-finally blocks which were introduced in python-2.5 (see http://docs.python.org/whatsnew/2.5.html#pep-341).
However, there are still lots of SLED-10 and RHEL-5.5 (or compatible,
for example Scientific Linux) installations and these only provide
python-2.4.2 (see for example
http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=novell).
Therefore I'd like you to do four changes:
1. Fix the readme.
2. Make a publicly visible tag for the last revision compatible with python-2.4
3. Make a release for that version and mark it accordingly.
4. I'd also like to know how compatible that version is to the current one (old client - new server and vice versa). Maybe you can put this in the readme or the "Answers" section on launchpad.
