Bug description:
  The original version of freetts has a long standing bug which results in absolutely no playback. The bug and solutions are described here:

  The solution requires a source patch which has been applied in this repo/branch:
  https://github.com/timabell/FreeTTS

  The original project appears to be dead. Please update the package to
  use the new source.
