CI/QA Lab consolidation update

All,

Well, it's Thursday. The day before we are supposed to start
consolidating all of the CI/QA lab hardware at 1SS. Tomorrow, Friday, we
are supposed to start moving hardware already at 1SS from A-side racks
into B-side racks. There seems to be a minor problem with that; UPS
hasn't managed to deliver the B-side racks yet. They have tried twice;
both times they were informed that their delivery truck wouldn't fit
down in the loading dock. Of course they were informed of that well
before the first delivery attempt.

So, at the moment, we are at a standstill. All things going well they
(UPS) will transfer the new B-side racks to a truck that can actually
traverse the underground garage area and make it to the loading dock.
Then we will need to get the racks upstairs and set up. Once that is
done (probably not until sometime early afternoon EST) then we can start
moving hardware within 1SS.

Couple that with the fact that all of the rackmount cases needed to
house the desktop test systems in Magners have not been delivered and
the end result winds up that we will be delayed a bit in starting to
relocate hardware from Lexington to 1SS. If all (or at least a majority)
of the rackmount cases arrive tomorrow then we can get a reasonable
start on relocating the hardware. It will be slowed down by the fact
that we will still need to transfer all of the internal components of
the desktop systems into the rackmount cases. That means it will likely
be well into Sunday (EST) before we get the hardware moved and racked.
Then we will still need to reconfigure networking on all of it, transfer
services from older hardware to new hardware, and test. Monday is a US
holiday but we will be working anyway to get as much of the testing
environment up as physically possible. It may be mid-week before
everything is fully back up and operational. We will work on the
critically needed test systems first in an attempt to ensure that
integration testing and merger proposals continue in a timely fashion.

Please address all concerns to Evan Dandrea (ev) instead of Rick Fowler
(rfowler) or me (retoaded) as both Rick and I will be a bit busy.
