Message #00000
Back in Time command line configuration.
Hello,
I am wondering if there has been any plans to add a command line interface
to Back in Time. I'm a big fan BiT, and use it on my desktop and laptop
computers, but it is difficult to configure on a headless server.
If there are no plans to tackle adding a command line interface, I am going
to take it on, I just figured it's going to take me awhile and I would hate
to have it half done just in time to see it being merged into the trunk.
My initial design is still very hazy, but I envision it taking the form of
another binary package, so you could install backintime-cli, which would
depend on backintime-common and not worry about having to pull in any GUI
dependencies, nor install any unneeded cli features for a user that has
either gnome or kde. There would be two main parts of the command line
interface, an ncurses (or similar) based configuration wizard, and a set of
tools to aid in listing the snapshots a file exists in and copy/restoring an
old file.
Please let me know if this sounds like a good path to you or if someone is
already working on a similar feature.
Thanks,
Ryan Ahearn
