thanks again! Haven't tested it yet - just a remark, the package landed somewhere here:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-ac100/3.1.10-1.2.

People how like to test it should add "console=tty1" to the kernel command line, as a 
(hopefully temporary) workaround for a console bug.
